transitworks' parent company (GPO) provided detailed design and construction supervision for the Quintanar del Rey-La Gineta segment of the new Madrid-Levante high-speed rail line. The train travels through four autonomous regions: Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencia and Murcia, connecting Madrid to the southeast of Spain. Work on the Quintanar del Rey-La Gineta segment involved installing a platform 14 meters wide that is designed to accommodate double railway track of international gauge.
The subsection Villalgordo Jucar-La Gineta extends through four municipalities in the province of Albacete. It has a total length of 10.6 miles and is designed for operating speeds of 220 miles/hour and a minimum speed of 140 miles per hour. The layout plan has seven turns and two straight alignments. The gradient is defined by slopes not greater than 25%, to fit the new infrastructure with the surrounding landscape. The implementation of the subsection required construction of two tunnels – the 0.4 mile Tunnel of Jucar and the 0.13 mile La Canada artificial tunnel. The project also involved design and construction of a major viaduct extending 0.3 miles over the Jucar River. Other work components included 14 grade crossings, (13 overpasses and one underpass), three wildlife crossings and 11 major drainage structures.
