gkkworks provided architectural services for this new classroom and simulation training center for fire-fighters and paramedics, including instructional in-services support. The site is located on the north campus gateway adjacent to a new administrative building and transit center, an important landmark for arrival to the campus. The facility was planned as a campus within a campus. The Program partnered with both San Diego Fire Rescue and San Diego County/Cal Fire, in addition to several other agencies in the County to provide training at all levels of firefighting.
The new facility has a traditional classroom area, large multi-purpose hall for large group presentations, outdoor training area, and student lounge with sliding glass doors to allow the rooms to extend into the exterior patio and landscape areas. The Fire Technology/EMT Training facility includes an NFPA Approved Training Tower, an Apparatus Bay, several classrooms, and a closed hydrant system with recycling capabilities. This facility is the only Southern California State-of-the-Art Command Training Center utilized to provide simulated training for organizing large scale disasters.
