klipp, a division of gkkworks, recently received official notification from the U.S. Green Building Council that the new Center PK-12 School, located in Center, Colorado, is now LEED Gold certified. klipp | gkkworks served as the Architect under a design-build contract with GE Johnson as the General Contractor, and Hutton/Cuningham Group as the Sustainability Architect.

In an area that has been long overlooked for new facilities, Central Regional Elementary School #21 is a welcome neighbor. The $33 million school, designed by gkkworks, serves 650 students in grades K-5. With structures totaling over 52,000 square feet, the school also allows for plenty of play area. Situated on a corner, the three-acre site allows for a pocket park complete with benches, shade trees, and a band shelter. Adjacent to this park is the multipurpose room, which is also available to the community.

User reception of gkkworks' design for the Los Angeles Unified School District's Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences was so positive, that fine arts instructor Arthur Aghajanian reached out to the firm to learn more about the project's design process, and demonstrate to students how the built environment can affect user experience.

The design-build team, led by Pinner Construction Co. and gkkworks, has received approval from the Division of the State Architect to begin the new construction and renovation phases on the Dorsey High School campus. The $28 million project, which is being designed and constructed to achieve a LEED Silver rating, will be completed in June 2014.
